2020 Get Out! For Wellness Hickory Run Snowshoe Hike

Hickory Run State Park’s 15,000+ acres holds a long, fascinating history dating back to a glacier that formed a national landmark found here. Join us for a snowshoe hike beginning on Gould Trail, then looping back via Sand Spring Trail for a total of 3 miles. This lower part of the Sand Spring Trail was built over the old railroad bed built that served the brick factory. A wooden water tower and waterlines seen along the trail are artifacts from the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration during the mid-1930s and 1940s that originally developed the park as a National Recreational Demonstration Area. Thick rhododendrons and large birch trees shadow large portions of the trail. We provide the snowshoes and even have tiny ones for kids as young as 6 years old. We’ll hike in the case of no snow. Easy to moderate trail, leashed dogs welcome. Portable toilets at the park office. DIRECTIONS: From PA-903, turn onto PA 534 for 6.8 miles to the Park Office.
